Otitis Media: CAM Therapies for Specific
Conditions
- Infants who exclusively engaged in breast-feeding for at least four months had significantly
fewer cases of otitis media or middle ear infections. This finding was
derived from a large study in 1993 at the University of Arizona. Food
allergy was also implicated in ear infections.
- Homeopathy appears to be effective in helping to control ear infections in
children. A 1996 study by Dr. K. H. Friese compared homeopathy with
antibiotic therapy and found a decrease in pain, and fewer relapses, in
children using homeopathy.
- A small body of evidence indicates that spinal
manipulation may be of some
value for people with otitis media. In a 1996 study, chiropractic was
found to have a significantly beneficial effect.
