The Best Alternative Medicine
"Dr. Pelletier has done it again! -- taken the massive literature in alternative medicine, found the science in it and presented it to the public in a clear and understandable way." -- Dr. Wayne B. Jonas |
Included in the book are the ten most common CAM therapies:
"The medicine of the future will integrate the best of traditional and nontraditional approaches to health and healing. But why wait? Find it today in The Best Alternative Medicine." -- Dr. Dean Ornish |
Each chapter begins with a clear, brief explanation of how that particular Complementary and Alternative Medicine therapy views health and illness from differing perspectives (ie, "chi" in Traditional Chinese Medicine) providing a context for the particular research findings, both positive and negative. Then, based on the best evidence from an exhaustive international search of published, peer review, randomized clinical trials, therapies are broken into these categories: "What Works?", "What Does Not Work?" and "What is in the Works?" or new research currently in progress at major research centers.
The second part of the book offers a "Condition by Condition" section which lists over 170 common conditions where specific Complementary and Alternative Medicine therapies are used. Since most individuals seek information according to their condition rather than by modality, this second section provides brief bullet points, again noting what works and what does not, with references to the text for a fuller explanation and specific research citations. Excerpts from the book are available that reference the research regarding Complementary and Alternative Medicine and Traditional Chinese Medicine therapies for common conditions such as cancer, alzheimers, asthma, and many more. There is also an extensive bibliography for each chapter and condition.
